LAS VEGAS--(BUSINES
WIRE)--March 6, 2001—
JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS
COMPANY
announces an exciting new addition to its line up of D-ILA -- based
projectors, the DLA-M5000SC "Super Contrast" D-ILA Projector.
This powerful large venue projector is ideal for digital cinema,
staging/rental, post-production and digital dailies screening installation,
and HDTV applications such as theme parks, museums and other specialized
applications requiring high resolution imaging. It is expected to be
available at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, NV, April 23-26, 2001, and is
currently on display at ShoWest.
In releasing preliminary specifications, JVC noted that this super contrast
projector will offer true S-XGA resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and
superb brightness of 5000 ANSI Lumens, making this projector the ideal unit
for digital cinema applications. Incorporating JVC's breakthrough D-ILA
liquid crystal on silicon (L-COS) imaging technology, the DLA-M5000SC is
delivering unprecedented sharpness and clarity on screens up to 25 feet
across.
The DLA-M5000SC projector boasts rugged design for easy installation
virtually anywhere, and is capable of being stacked for screens larger than
25'.
Based on JVC's award winning Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier (D-ILA)
technology, the new DLA-M5000SC is one of many upcoming product announcements
from JVC aimed at the growing Digital Cinema and related markets.
Proprietary D-ILA(TM) Technology
The D-ILA device, JVC's own development, is a unique 0.9" diagonal reflective
CMOS chip which is addressed digitally by the source signal. Packing 1.4
million pixels onto the chip with a tiny 13.5 micron pitch between pixels
produces a very smooth, silky image. By minimizing the space between pixels,
the D-ILA's high-density structure and extra high aperture ratio of 93%
effectively eliminates stripe noise and produces crisp, clear images from
edge to edge with well-defined details and vivid, true-to-life colors. The
driving IC substrate is located behind the liquid crystal layer, making it
possible to achieve much higher levels of brightness and resolution than with
conventional devices.
Another advantage of the D-ILA device is the vertical alignment
("homeotropic" structure) of the liquid crystal layer. This ensures
that
projected images have extra high contrast and makes it possible to accurately
reproduce even subtle gradation differences between the lighter and darker
parts of the projected image.
JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY, in cooperation with JVC's Digital Image
Technology Center located in Carlsbad, CA has developed a procedure designed
for Digital Cinema presentations known as "Video Gamma Profile",
where black
level and color temperature are optimized to display a more "film
like"
viewing experience while maintaining maximum light output and maximum
contrast. This procedure is characteristic of the continuing advancement of
JVC's D-ILA projector products offered to the Broadcast, Professional, and
Home Theater viewing audiences worldwide.
Technology Demonstration-True HD Digital Cinema Projection System
JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY will participate in a technology
demonstration of a new QXGA Digital Cinema projection system at the ShoWest
exhibition. A system displaying native QXGA resolution (2048 x 1536) images
will be demonstrated. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss their
specific Digital Cinema technology application with JVC personnel.
